Laughter and banter in Vietnam
In November 2016, I had one the greatest and rewarding experiences of my life: a solo trip to Vietnam for 20 days. The beautiful memories are countless, I got to see stunning views and live magical and simple moments. Traveling by myself was definitely a learning experience and I've met incredible people along the way and collected amazing memories.
At Hanoi's train station I hopped on the night train at 10pm, where I shared a bunker with 3 other people: a german guy, a french girl and their local tour guide. We immediately hit it off and the german guy confessed to me that was his 20th time trekking in Sa Pa. He was a fascinating 60 years old man and he was so happy to be back in Vietnam with his friend, a french woman, which he'd met in Sa Pa on this 3rd trekking many years ago. They have been friends ever since.
When we arrived in Sa Pa I was taken by an extraordinary excitement. The mountains, the nature, the sky, the fresh air... Sa Pa is amazing, breathtaking, probably the most beautiful place I've even been. Its natural beauty painted the perfect background for what was the biggest reason of my best holiday memory in Vietnam: the people.
At the end of the trekking day, when I arrived at the local home stay, I quickly engaged in a conversation with other tourist trekkers and after only five minutes of conversation we decided already to go for a drink. At the local bar young people were playing some tunes and having beers. Seating at the bar we all sang songs in our own mother language. Here is a video of me singing a korean song:
Everybody is different, their all have their lives and problems, but well share the same desire to explore, learn and be inspired by each other. Even thou I was a bit worried about my solo trip to Vietnam, I had no time to feel alone. I was surrounded by people that made my trip extremely rewarding. To the ones I have met in Vietnam, a big thank you.
