If someone told me, 10 years ago, that I would prefer a trip to the sea to one to the mountains, I would’ve laughed in their face. But here we are, ten summers later, and a story of narrow streets and a sandy beach. I fell in love with Constanta after one visit, off-season, when we explored its streets and enjoyed the quiet beach.
Of course, over years, it changed, and more and more people discover it each summer. But it has remained this special place in my heart.
Each summer we gather here more memories and special moments. Like the first time our son stepped on sand and in the sea, his laugh when the first little wave hit his face.
The beach is spacious, and the view is breathtaking. Both in season and off-season.
The National History and Archeology Museum is at the center of the historical part of the city. This area turns more beautiful each year. The famous Casino sits on the coast. Around it, there is a little park with a lot of benches and a view of the sea. It’s peaceful. The cool breeze, the waves crashing against the cliffs, seagulls crying in the distance.
Of course, the city is much larger than this little area. There are shopping malls, and The Museum of Natural Sciences, and another very large park. But I am more drawn to this part of the city. I always liked little picturesque streets, houses with flowers on the windows, old buildings, so peaceful and quiet.
We had the opportunity to visit the Casino building on that trip, years ago, when I fell in love with the city. The interior is truly beautiful, elegant. If you can look past the decay. I still hope they will restore this piece of art.
Is there something more beautiful than sitting on bench, in the shade, listening to the sea, or walking on narrow streets, with no cars around? The waves cooling your heated skin on the beach, and stopping, on the way to your accommodation, to pet a stray cat, lounging in the shade?
I’ll let you answer that. I have no doubt each of you has a different idea of a beautiful vacation.
I am still searching for more memories, but this is the one place we return to each year. I hope I made you at least a little bit curious to visit Constanta.
